Baked by Melissa bite-size cupcakes in a variety of flavors, New York City

Our Story

YOU CAN DO ANYTHING.

Scene one is a career hinge in 2008. Melissa Ben-Ishay had been an assistant media planner; after she was fired, her brother proposed a concrete next move—return home, bake cupcakes, and shape the baking into a business. Melissa Ben-Ishay became a founder of Baked by Melissa.

Scene two: flavor ideas meet a miniature format

The next scene moves from advice to assortment. s’mores, tie-dye, cookie dough, and peanut butter cup informed the early flavor ideas, while mini and bite-size defined the cupcake format. The setting was New York City, and Baked by Melissa's first retail location was a pickup window in SoHo.

Scene three: the city and the circle around the idea

New York City influenced the company's early energy and creativity, but the account is not a solo portrait. Baked by Melissa describes a group vision involving family, friends, and team, and identifies the business as female-founded.

MAKE LIFE SWEETER.

The final scene holds two truths together: Melissa Ben-Ishay is a founder of Baked by Melissa, and the brand frames its progress as a group vision. Family, friends, and team therefore belong in the closing acknowledgment.
